History is not neutral. Every archive is a political act — a decision about what gets remembered and what gets buried. The America Files exists because five centuries of Hispanic presence in the Americas have been systematically erased, distorted, and replaced by a narrative written by those who arrived later and stayed longer only by force.
La historia no es neutral. Todo archivo es un acto político — una decisión sobre lo que se recuerda y lo que se entierra. The America Files existe porque cinco siglos de presencia hispana en las Américas han sido sistemáticamente borrados, distorsionados y reemplazados por un relato escrito por quienes llegaron después y permanecieron solo por la fuerza.
Two Fronts, One Hand / Dos frentes una misma mano
The cycle of erasure has evolved into a strategic pincer. On one side, we are invaded by the frivolous: a global “lifestyle” of debt-funded luxury and Botox, creating theme parks of materialism that displace the authentic. On the other, a programmed chaos of uncontrolled migration and street violence shatters the social peace of our neighborhoods. This archive rejects the false choice between the “expat” and the “illegal,” exposing both as tools of the same dispossession.
El ciclo del borrado ha evolucionado hacia una pinza estratégica. Por un lado, nos invade lo frívolo: un “lifestyle” global de lujo basado en deuda y bótox, creando parques temáticos del materialismo que desplazan lo auténtico. The method only scales. It began with infected blankets — smallpox as a deliberate weapon against the first nations. It continued with eugenics and the use of Zyklon B tested on Mexican bodies at the El Paso border in 1917, providing the technical blueprint later used in the Holocaust. Today it has reached industrial scale — from AI-directed targeting in Gaza to the systematic dismantling of independent energy infrastructure across Europe and the Middle East. Each act shielded by a narrative that labels the victim as the aggressor. These are not isolated events. They are documented in this archive.

The Hispanic World Wakes / El mundo hispano despierta
For two centuries, the Black Legend worked. After having been the real conquerors of the world — not conquerors by design, but by the force of curiosity, faith, and a search for spice routes that led to a continent — the Hispanic world was slowly convinced that everything foreign was better. That we were the villains of history. That our ideas, our institutions, our way of being in the world had no value.
It worked. For a while.
But something has shifted. Those of us who carry this inheritance — Spanish, Caribbean, Hispanic America, the entire Hispanic world — increasingly recognise that we do not think like those whose ideologies we were handed. That our honour does not fit inside their frameworks. That the actions of those we were taught to admire do not represent us. That what was taken from us was not just territory or resources, but self-knowledge.
This archive is part of the recovery. We are the children of Hernán Cortés and Isabel la Católica, of the School of Salamanca, of the first hospitals and universities of the Americas. We do not need to conquer the world again. We need to remember that we already did — and that we did it differently.
Durante dos siglos, la Leyenda Negra funcionó. Después de haber sido los verdaderos conquistadores del mundo — no por diseño imperial sino por la fuerza de la curiosidad, la fe y la búsqueda de rutas de especias que llevaron a un continente — el mundo hispano fue convenciéndose poco a poco de que todo lo de fuera era mejor. De que éramos los villanos de la historia. De que nuestras ideas, nuestras instituciones, nuestra forma de estar en el mundo no tenían valor.
Funcionó. Por un tiempo.
Pero algo ha cambiado. Quienes llevamos esta herencia — españoles, caribeños, Hispanoamérica, el mundo hispano entero — reconocemos cada vez más que no pensamos como aquellos cuyas ideologías nos entregaron. Que nuestro honor no cabe en sus marcos. Que las acciones de quienes aprendimos a admirar no nos representan. Que lo que nos quitaron no fue solo territorio o recursos, sino el conocimiento de nosotros mismos.
Este archivo es parte de la recuperación. Somos hijos de Hernán Cortés y de Isabel la Católica, de la Escuela de Salamanca, de los primeros hospitales y universidades de América. No necesitamos conquistar el mundo de nuevo. Necesitamos recordar que ya lo hicimos — y que lo hicimos de otra manera.
